Environment - KNX/EIB Control of heating, lighting and blinds

An installation is able to control your homes internal and external lighting, heating and air-conditioning, automated window blinds, curtains and shutters.

All of our installations are designed and programmed to meet your specific requirements. We work closely with you to produce a detailed project specification drawing on our expertise and experience to produce a system that is right for you.

The KNX/EIB system is the first and only open international standard for home and building control. We use the KNX/EIB system in our installations ensuring the investment you make in your installation will retain its value and be supported for years to come.

Lighting control can be made to replicate a traditional home installation - One wall mounted switch switches on and off the lighting in one room. The same installation, however, can be programmed to allow much more. A common feature is to add a single control switch mount located near to the front door that is assigned to switch off all the lights within the house from a single press. Additional switches can be added on the same mount for additional functions such as closing all of the curtains and blinds within the home.

A room can be designed with a number of 'lighting scenes' that can be called up from the press of a wall mounted switch. These scenes can use any number of lighting circuits allowing for the implementation of creative lighting designs along side practical functionality.
For example a living room may have 4 'scenes' created for specific activities such as 'dining', 'entertaining', 'reading' or for 'watching the television or movies'. Each scene would be optimised for use both from a design and functional perspective.

Timed and triggered lighting sequences can also be realised with an installation. A typical example would be for exterior lighting of a driveway. The system can be triggered when you arrive home in the evening, lighting the driveway as your car passes by. The lighting sequence could then light the front porch area for a fixed period of time or until you have entered the house. The entire lighting system can be made to operate automatically if required using PIR detectors or through door entry sensors.

Automated lighting can be used as an effective security deterrent. Visit our Security and CCTV page for more information on lighting use in simulated occupancy.

Heating and air-conditioning systems can be controlled as part of an installation. Each room can have its own environmental controller allowing you to precisely set the temperature of each individual room. The system can help make significant energy savings by only heating or cooling areas of the home that are in use.

Traditional heating control systems often offer timers for the control of the entire system. An installation enables timed control of any room or heating zone within the home. For example, the system can be configured to heat the bedrooms at a set time in the evening. At the same time the system can turn the heating in the living rooms.

All elements of an installation can be configured to enable remote access. Visit our Integrated Control section for more information on controlling the system remotely via the internet or from your mobile phone.

Your homes curtains and blinds can be automated and controlled using technology. A wall switch can be assigned to open and close any motorised curtain or blind within the home. The same EIB/KNX system is used as with the lighting and heating control. This allows a number of curtains to be grouped together in a scene an activated from a single switch. Similarly a scene can be created that includes more than one area of technology i.e. lighting, heating and blind control.

A great example of the benefits of this integrated control system is in a home cinema environment. Pressing a single button could activate a scene that would automatically dim the main lights, close the blinds and set fix the temperature of the room. The system can also be designed to automatically start up the projector or plasma screen and display a list of available movies from your collection.
