were commissioned to design and install state-of-the-art home technology in a 3 bedroom semi-detached cottage in Collingham, Yorkshire.
The property was undergoing sympathetic modernisation with a 2 story stone side extension, luxury kitchen, bathroom and en-suite.
were asked to integrate lighting, security, audio and visual systems without spoiling the character of the cottage. In addition, as the owners had overseas properties, they wanted to monitor the cottage from aboard and give the impression that the cottage was occupied when absent.
chose a proven industry standard wired system called KNX/EIB for all lighting, heating control, blind and curtain control. This system is extremely flexible in terms of allowing the user many ways to control each function. For example, a single wall mounted light switch can dim the lights, close the blinds and turn up the heating. Functions can be changed by the user so that if in the future, the same light switch needed to just turn on/off a light it can easily be programmed without the need for re-wiring or a visit from the electrician.
The same KNX/EIB technology was also used to enhance the security of the cottage. Interfaced with a standard intruder alarm system, the EIB system simulates occupancy by opening/closing curtain and blinds, switching light on and off. Three external PIR sensors detect movement on all 3 sides of the cottage and trigger random events inside the property to give the impression of occupancy. In addition, two camera’s, one mounted at the rear and one on the side of the property constantly look for movement and email images off site instantly as well as record on DVR for historical information.
The audio visual brief was quite specific. De-clutter, no big floor standing speakers, no pile of hi-fi/dvd under the TV and no CD’s cluttering up book shelves.
An Imerge S3000 audio server was chosen as the source for audio in the living room and kitchen/diner. This state-of-the art server allows the whole CD collection to be stored. It automatically connects to the internet and downloads album covers and track details. The CD collection can then be viewed via the TV, remote tablet or wall mounted controls. Finding the CD is quicker than looking through shelves of CD boxes and eliminates finding that empty case !
Ceiling speakers were used in the kitchen and living room to discretely deliver high quality audio. Technology has moved on considerable with in ceiling speakers delivering hi-fi quality sound previously unheard of.
The multi-room audio system distributes sound to any room with fitted speakers allowing sound to follow you through the house without the need for volume 10 !
In addition to audio, the client requested control of TV/Sky via the remote tablet. The Sky remote was duplicated on the tablet touch screen eliminating the need for separate remotes.
All the house technology can be controlled via the remote tablet. You can have multiple tablets either remote or wall mounted.
The same screens can be accessed via the internet giving complete control anywhere in the world as if you were at home. For example, the client can view the security camera’s close curtains and even turn the music on remotely.
The whole system is covered by a 5 year warranty with free yearly maintenance checks.

have provided intelligent lighting for Jeremy Wood Designed Kitchens new Harrogate showroom which opened June 2007.
The new showroom features traditional beautifully hand crafted designs along with a new stylish range from Miele.
All kitchens are individually designed to meet clients exacting standards. Jeremy Wood has been designing
kitchens for over 20 years and is well respected in the Yorkshire area for his attention to detail and quality
of design.
The new range from Miele feature in built coloured lighting allowing the kitchen to change character depending
on the occasion. were asked to provide an intelligent lighting system to demonstrate the features
and also control all other lighting in the showroom. In addition,
were given the opportunity to demonstrate control of audio/visual elements, such as TV/CD/iPods, heating,
security and remote internet access.
A wall mounted touch screen was chosen for control of the lighting functions. A system called EIB was used to control
the standard lighting and coloured lighting. EIB is the only building automation system with a European and
International Standard and is the choice of
for all our installations.
The touch screen allows many different moods to be preset and called up at the touch of the screen or remote control.
For example, this allows all lights to come on for a cleaning mode and then any combination of on/off, intensity or
colour for cooking, dining or watching TV. The screen allows timers to be set so that lights can be on when you
return home or can change gently from one mood to another during a dinner party. A really useful security feature
allows lighting to simulate occupancy when you are not in. For example, the screen records your normal living patterns
and can then simulate the lighting from a dinner party you had last week making it look as though you are at home.
It also has the ability to even play music or turn the TV on to further enhance the illusion.
In addition, the screen provides all the normal features required for operating the showroom lighting saving costs
on traditional methods such as separate dimmers and timers etc. The screen also has the ability for the shop key holder
to monitor the lighting from the internet and interfaced with the standard shop alarm system can provide further
information on the status of the system.
